Supporting the Black Community

The last time I was in the White House (as in the actual White House, not the Eisenhower Executive Office Building) was in December 2016 when the Mister was invited to attend a thank you event because he was a political appointee in the previous administration. I went as his guest, so it was my good fortune to admire this view. It’s hard to imagine living in that building without feeling an enormous pressure to care for the people who live outside those gates. With great power comes great responsibility.

It’s plain and simple. As a woman of color, I have a responsibility to support other communities of color when there is strife. So, if you’re in need of finding ways to support the Black community, here’s a list:

Virtual Protesting 101: How to amplify Black voices and 5 Ways to Support Protestors if You Can’t Go to a Protest

Support Black led organizations – the Community Justice Action Fund is one that resonates with me. You can donate here.

Support Bail Funds: Organized by city to support protestors

Send an email (already written for you!) to MN elected officials to demand accountability in the murder of George Floyd.

Subscribe to the Anti-racism Daily so that you have an action that you can use for your everyday life.

Sign the pledge so that major retailers will pledge to give 15% of their shelves to Black-owned businesses

Support Black Owned Businesses

and as I continue to do my homework, anti-racism resources for white people (books to raise anti-racist children, podcasts, books for adults, videos etc…).

More to come….
