Vacation in Place

I’m used to traveling for work quite a bit, and when I had my consulting business, I planned my vacations according to the congressional calendar and campaign cycle. With the quarantine, I’m daydreaming more about a vacation while in place. In an earlier post, I mentioned there are spectacular places where we can take virtual tours that would be on anyone’s list of travel destinations.

On a work trip to Portland, OR & I got this lovely view of Mt. Hood

Instagram is my go-to for wistfulness. With beautiful locales and dreamy settings, it doesn’t get much better in perking up my mood. Travel wanderlust gives me all the feels. Oftentimes, I want to plan so many activities that I need a vacation from my vacation! Where I get my most pleasure is from eating at all the places. Basically, I take a restaurant’s neighborhood and use that as the destination to which I explore. Even if it means trekking from across town and back, I think it’s well worth the jaunt.

Here are a few of my favorite Instagram travel handles:

@condenasttraveller – the pictures are spectacular and take you on a world tour
@travelandleisure Not only do they give you incredible inspiring photos, they also provide travel tips
@discovery.hd is a photographer’s jackpot of nature, animal & location shots. A lot of the pictures pique my interest so it makes me want to learn more about a particular place.
@departuresmag has a bit of lifestyle and culture to it.
@oneikatraveller is travel writer who has visited more than 114+ countries and she has superb advice on what to do. She’s fluent in multiple languages (she was a French teacher) and you see that in action with her videos.

What’s on your travel list? Wherever you go, I hope you get there safely and enjoy your adventures.
