Reading Distractions

Thanks to everyone who did the survey for what kind of content you want from the blog. One of the newer things you want are book recommendations.

I prefer Action, Mystery, and most recently, Romantic Comedies. My reading distractions are about happily ever afters and for me, it’s the perfect way to step away from what’s happening right now. I’ve always been an avid reader. When I was a kid, my parents would often leave me in the book section of a store/mall and come back to get me when they were done. The library was a favorite destination and I spent a lot of time reading biographies. For some reason, I really enjoyed reading the biography of Martha Washington. I know that everyone’s preferences can run the gamut so I hope that you’ll share your favorite books as well.

On a whim last year, I decided to read The UnHoneyMooners and since then I have joined the Christina Lauren fan club. Christina and Lauren are two individuals who created one voice and they do it magnificently. A few months ago, I saw them at local bookstore, One More Page Books in Falls Church, VA for a book signing for their book, Twice in a Blue Moon and an interview with Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches, Trashy Books. Their Beautiful Bastard series is definitely steamy so be forewarned that you may get a little thirsty.

While I was there, I saw a poster for Andie Christopher‘s book, Not the Girl You Marry so I pre-ordered that book while I was waiting to get my book signed. I also started following Andie on twitter (especially when I found out that she is local to the DMV & an author of color) and she’s downright hilarious.

Such a fun book!

I also bought a book written by another woman of color, Renée Ahdieh because it’s a story based in 1872 New Orleans. The main character, Celine Rousseau, is of Asian and French ancestry so I was enamored. What more could I want out of a book?

Fantasy young adult with vampires.

Fantasy adventure is also interesting to me. Back in the 2004 campaign cycle, I was a consultant to a national political party committee and a presidential campaign so I was going CRAY CRAY with stress. The only way that I could decompress was by re-reading the Harry Potter books. Such a lifesaver! My recent obsession is Sarah J. Maas and her Throne of Glass series. The story is based off of Cinderella and instead of Cinderella being a servant, she’s an assassin. Kinda badass. Definitely enjoyed it.

Bad ass main character.

I’ll continue to add more books that I’ve read and I hope you’ll share your favorites too!
