Sweat it Out

I’m not a natural athlete. Consistency is my jam, so with most things in my life, I like schedules. Feeling strong is my optimal sensation for working out. Pilates, TRX, weights to an extent & running are my go-to exercises. With COVID-19, I paused my Pilates reformer classes at Reformation Fitness although they are doing online instruction of their other fitness classes, including Pilates mat. I also paused my Orangetheory Fitness classes, and although I’m dying when I get out of those classes, I know it’s good for me because I was never really good at weights from the time I used to run in high school.

Since COVID-19 killed all of my consistency, I try to be active with the many choices of fitness apps that I use to keep me interested in working out. I like structure, so me going willy nilly with my regiment is a complete disaster. I like going to my exercise studios because the trainers know what they’re doing, and they also know me. I’ve gone to Reformation since they opened, and I consistently attend classes with the same instructor. He knows my limits, as well as what needs improvement to push me. I don’t have to think; I only need to focus. I’m happy to say that I’ve returned to reformer class and have started the adventure of rediscovering my abs! Reformation does a terrific job in enacting safety protocols to maintain a clean environment. They moved equipment so that we can be 10′ apart and provided lots of disinfectants.

While I haven’t fully scheduled myself into classes, I continue to use fitness apps to stay active. One of my favorite apps is FitOn. It allows me to choose length of time and specific types of exercises – super easy to have variety and keep me sweating. Since I’m an early riser, I like to get out for a run/walk using Map My Run and then come back for a quick stretch or workout to get my heart rate up. Instagram is also a terrific place to find workouts. I like Mickiphit and Self Magazine. The former provides modifications for a lot the moves she demonstrates. The latter also has articles that help with mental well being.

Its challenging to stay active when there are public health restrictions so I hope these recommendations can help you to keep sweating!

Wishing you well!
