Girl Dad
Today’s Father’s Day, so I hope those who celebrate are spending time with those who have served as fathers or father figures. My own dad passed away when I was 15 years old, so I appreciate all the dudes in my life who helped me along the way.
Although I lost my dad a long time ago, I see so much of him in the things that I do. My enjoyment of sushi, oysters on the half shell, frog legs, pickled eggs/beets, & rhubarb, I can thank my dad. I think of him every day, especially when I type (which I do a lot) because he taught me on his manual typewriter. He had a special way of typing with 2 fingers vs the traditional way of typing. It’s amazing to think that there are little things that I do because of him. I had a horrible time after he died. It felt like a light switch flipped on to where I was no longer a child and I became an adult.
I think a lot about children who lose a parent because I know that it affected me in ways that I couldn’t imagine. My thoughts go to the parent left behind providing for a family that may never seem fully whole. As a result, I get mushy seeing dads with their daughters. There have been a lot of sweet posts on social media of my friends honoring their dads, partners, and loved ones who play such a significant role. It warms my heart to see people sharing their bond and love.
Actor Michael Ealey shared this on his Instagram feed and it’s so cute. Who doesn’t enjoy seeing dads going to dance class? What about when dad throws caution to the wind and jumps around in mud puddles because baby girl wants you to join her? Yeah, that’s some wholesome goodness right there.
See you next time!
