Folger Shakespeare Library

I’m so fortunate to be in walking distance to free exhibits at museums and libraries. One of the things that I used to organize for work as donor maintenance events were group tickets for the theatre. One such place is the Folger Shakespeare Library. It’s close-by and in walking distance to my house which is a bonus. FUN FACT: They house the largest collection of Shakespeare’s work in the world. Let that sink in!

One time, I walked over there just so that I could ogle the white shirt that was worn by Colin Firth when he portrayed Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Yes, it doesn’t take much to get me out of the house!

You can see more than just a shirt since the First Folio from Shakespeare is on permanent exhibit. The Great Hall is meant to bring to mind a 16th century house with its walls made of oak panels and a soaring ceiling. You can find this in the Great Hall as well!

There is also a magnificent reading room that is open to the public for tours on Saturdays. The tour is free however you need to make reservations in advance.

Honestly, finding culture isn’t difficult in this city and so much of it is easily accessible.
