Kapnos – Mediterranean on 14th St.

Since I’ve been doing renovations for my house, I’ve been doing a lot of eating out. It’s not that I don’t have a kitchen but the studio where we’re living is cozy and having lots of food smells lingering in the area of where I sleep is not my usual way of relaxing.

Needless to say, there are a ton of new restaurants to try so my friend, AP and I decided to check out Kapnos, Chef Mike Isabella’s new place on 14th St. They have valet parking so that makes it easier when driving and that part of town can be unfriendly when it comes to parking.

Since one of my closest friends is Greek, I’ve been very fortunate to enjoy her momma’s cooking and it has always been delicious. This experience was like having my own Greek momma cooking just for me!

I really enjoyed the decor of the space. The “chandelier” is comprised of green bottles – cool!
From the barely raw mezze section of the menu this is the bronzino
This was one of my favorite dishes, the Greek fries are very very peppery. Eating chickpeas never tasted so good!

We tried a lot of the small plates and we were seated next to 4 dudes who were devouring an enormous plate of lamb shoulder. We calculated that we would need 6 of our friends to finish it so whose up for joining us?

As for our meat dishes (marinated spring lamb and suckling pig), the portion size was just right!
The potatoes are super lemon-y. As in make your lips pucker 🙂
This was the charred octopus – tender and meaty without the rubbery texture – delicious!
Meat on a spit!
This menu was soo good! I am looking forward to getting a group together to devour the lamb shoulder and to try the other items on the menu that I didn’t get a chance to enjoy. It’s a fun atmosphere and sharing is caring 🙂
Cheers!
